Springtime Garden

So Spring has sprung and the garden is coming to life

An abundance of daffs, hyacinths and tulips are blooming and the spring smells are yummy! All the pots are full of colour and the rose bushes and pear tree and getting their spring leaf coverage.

Last weekend I dug over the remaining thin border around the rose bushes, and got out all the weeds. I seeded the wild meadow border, and I planted up a few packets of seeds which I got free from various mags; some asters and some fat spikes (Amaranthus Caudatus). I’m running out of space and pots, so I improvised by using old water fountain plastic cups, making a small hole in the bottom and filling half full of seed soil, leaving plenty of plastic at the top acts as a sort of lid, they were heating up nicely in the greenhouse, its only an experiment but so far so good.

Unfortunately I think  I have lost my seeds. They should be germinating about now but so far nothing, I think I may have planted them too early and with no propagator regulating the heat, they probably just didn’t take. It was mainly some veg and salad items, so I think ill stick with buying young plants and growing them on as the plugs I planted up a few weeks ago seem to be thriving. Either that or I shall wait for warmer weather and try again with seeds. I may try both. Its all a big experiment really, but I am enjoying myself immensely 🙂

With the glorious sunshine we had this weekend I was able to get out and take some photos of the flowers, this was one of the main reasons for the planting I plan on doing, making a photographic and wildlife friendly garden.

Spring really is my favourite time of the year, the colour and vibrancy of the flowers with the newly emerging sun really does lift the spirits 🙂
