Being a newbie to all this, I have been relying on gardening magazines and garden centre websites to gather information in order to make the right decisions in what to buy and plant and when. I am discovering some super time and money saving ideas . I have read in Amateur Gardening magazine how to grow a very quick and easy meadow, and seeing as I am already in the process of creating a wild flower garden I really loved their suggestion. I shall be purchasing some to spread in amongst my wild flower seeds to bulk it up, as buying the wild flower seed packets individually can be very pricey, this mixture also comes with special fungi in it which breaks down and supplies the right nutrients to the right seeds when they need it, clever! I just hope there is not too much grass seed in it, as I don’t want that sort of a meadow!
I’d be interested to know if anyone else has any wild flower/ meadow border ideas. As this is my first I need all the help I can get!

That’s a wonderful idea Amy and I hope you can get it growing well. I have been watching Sarah Raven’s programmes on BBC TV. She is passionate about plant nectar rich plants to sustain our bees, butterflies and birds and has been conducting a campaign up and down the country to encourage people to go the wild flower route. Many of the highly bred colour bedding plants people so like are not nectar rich. The programmes are probably still on the BBC iPlayer. In Harrogate, noted for its colourful displays of bedding plants, they planted some beds with nectar rich species and compared them with the usual bedding varieties. The difference was astounding. The wildflower mic was buzzing with bees, hover flies and butterflies and the other bed had virtually none!
